Computer Assembly/Repair Technician – Youth Internship

Renewed Computer Technology (RCT) is a non-profit organization which manages a number of programs, the largest of which is the Computers for Schools Plus (CFS+) Program in Ontario.

RCT’s mandate for the CFS+ program is to provide youth between the ages of 16-30 years with hands on work paid experience for 6 months in order to pursue their careers in the IT industry. Currently, RCT is looking for Computer Technicians (Inventory, Assembly & Repair) to work at our Mississauga location.

The position involves the assessing, assembling & repair of donated computers for distribution to schools, charities & low income families as well as inventory and ERP training and work experience.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Disassemble, inspect and test computer equipment that is donated for reuse or recycling
  • Inventory of computer equipment and associated parts – warehouse & ERP
  • Training in the use of the ERP system
  • Assemble computer packages for delivery to our customers
  • Diagnose and locate computer component equipment faults
  • Install computer software programs as per the customer’s request
  • Quality Check of completed assemblies to ensure a high quality product
  • Adjust, align, replace or repair computer equipment, assemblies and software
  • Clean, verify and package computers for delivery to customers
  • Special projects as required
  • Shop cleaning duties as assigned

Qualification and Experience (as per our funding requirements):

  • IT certification such as A+ is an asset
  • A minimum of 1 year experience in computer hardware is required

  • Strong computer hardware and software knowledge
  • Good communication skills
  • Be able to work in a team environment
  • Prompt and reliable
  • Ability to focus on task at hand, self-motivate
  • Attention to detail and quality is required
  • Physically able to lift computers and monitors
  • *Please note that this is a warehouse environment

CFS+ Program requirements:

This position is an ESDC funded program under the Youth Employment Strategy program and has strict qualifying criteria as follows:

  • Applicants must be between the ages of 16 and 30 years, and
  • Only the following 3 status: A Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada
  • NOTE: WORK PERMITS DO NOT QUALIFY FOR THIS PROGRAM, and
  • Legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial legislation and regulations, and
  • Must not be previous participants in a ESDC youth funded program, and
